Locally-owned La Estrella, 2449 Iowa Street, has agreed to participate in the Stock Healthy Shop Healthy (SHSH), a community-based initiative organized by K-State Research and Extension Douglas County SNAP-Ed and LiveWell Douglas County and is supported by a grant from the Douglas County Community Foundation.
SHSH aims to partner with local food retailers to improve access and affordability of healthy foods in Douglas County.
The Stock Healthy Shop Healthy team will be at the store from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, offering healthy food samples, recipes and shopping bags to customers.
La Estrella, owned by Raul and Adany Perez, originally from Queretaro, Mexico, has been in business 13 years. In addition to the small grocery store, they also operate a small restaurant.
