Baldwin City Summer Food Service Program Kicks Off on May 28

Summer Sun Food and Fun

Baldwin City is excited to launch a free healthy summer meal program. The program will run 10 weeks from May 28, 2019 to July 31, 2019 (excluding July 4). USD No. 348 will be the program sponsor providing nutritious meals to children and youth ages 1 to 18 during the summer.

The summer meals program has been in Lawrence for more than 21 years and last year served over 48,000 meals at sites in Lawrence and one site in Lecompton. Expanding to include all of Douglas County has been a goal for the summer meals program. This year Baldwin City qualifies for the USDA Summer Food Service Program.

Financial support from the Baldwin Economic Development Corporation, Mid America Bank and a Culture of Health grant from K-State State Research and Extension Douglas County will assist with the startup costs of the program.

The Baldwin City Summer Meals Program is being organized by: Baker University Student Services, Baldwin Academy of Dance and Voice, Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce, Baldwin City Economic Development Corporation, Baldwin City Parks and Recreation, Baldwin City Pool, Baldwin Public Library, Baldwin Fellowship Baptist Church, Baldwin State Bank, Community Food Pantry, First United Methodist Church, Harvesters, Kansas Appleseed, Kansas Department of Education Nutrition and Wellness, K-State Research and Extension Douglas County, Lumberyard Arts Center, Mid America Bank and USD348 Nutrition Services.
