LiveWell celebrates hiring of first executive director to build on 12 years of success

Marty Scott will become the inaugural Executive Director of LiveWell Douglas County in early November. She joins our organization after a successful career in the public health system in Kansas City, Missouri. Throughout her career, Marty has demonstrated commitment to authentic community engagement and partnerships with the goal of advancing health equity for all residents.

"I’m honored to join LiveWell Douglas County and am committed to moving their outstanding work forward in addressing structural and systemic inequities in policies, systems and environments that for generations have prevented our communities from being places where all can thrive," Scott said. "We have good work to do, and I am anxious to serve, work, and move forward together."

“We are absolutely thrilled Marty is set to lead the organization and join our team of dedicated coalition members and community leaders,” said Joey Hentzler, Chair of LiveWell.

Since 2008, LiveWell has worked to build thriving communities. These collaborative successes include a robust Farm to School program; approval of a Complete Streets Policy and creation of a Multimodal Transportation Commission in Lawrence; the Safe Routes to School program securing more than $1 million in state funding; the Double Up Food Bucks program; support for summer meal programs for all children in the county; a strong coalition with key partners to prevent sexual violence; tobacco-free parks in Eudora, Lawrence and Lecompton; and, the the county Tobacco-21 ordinance.

LiveWell remains committed to our role as supporting organization for the Community Health Improvement Plan to improve food security and healthy built environments throughout Douglas County. We invite new and existing partners and leaders to join our work to achieve fare free public transit, tackle hunger with innovative strategies, achieve more tobacco prevention policies, improve workplace health, and more.
