The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department had a record-setting year in 2015 for enrollment in programming and activities. Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, there were 27,468 enrollments.
The previous enrollment record was set in 2014 when enrollments reached 23,965. Parks and Recreation also saw it surpass the 20,000 enrollment mark earlier than it ever had by reaching the 20,000-enrollment mark on Sept. 3 this year.
The enrollment figure for 2015 is a 13-percent increase over enrollments in 2014 and a 20-percent increase in enrollment compared to the 2013 enrollment figure.
Individual enrollments are counted for all programs and activities, like fitness, dance, youth sports, swim lessons, nature classes and special event registration, while team sport enrollments are counted as one enrollment. Since 2006, Parks and Recreation has had nearly 239,000 enrollments, indicating citizens are living healthy, active lifestyles.
