Eudora Farmers Market: Supporting Access to Local Food
Eudora Parks and Recreation received a grant funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas as part of LiveWell Douglas County’s Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Initiative. The funds will be used to support Eudora's Farmers Market and help increase access to fresh, locally grown produce. Sally Pennington, Director, and Jimmy Kegin, Assistant Director, started the Eudora Farmers’ Market as a way to bring the community together around local food, wellness, and connection. During the summer of 2025, Eudora Parks and Recreation hosted their first full farmers market season. The Eudora City Commission and City Administration strongly supported the project. “Our hope and goal was to create a space where residents and visitors of all ages could meet their neighbors, support small businesses and local growers, hear a local musician for maybe the first time, and celebrate Eudora’s community spirit.” shared Sally Pennington. Thanks to Jimmy’s leadership and behind-the-scenes coordination, Pennington highlighted how he worked tirelessly to recruit vendors, organize activities, and bring live music and energy to each market day. “It’s been rewarding to watch a brand-new program take root through his dedication and the support of our community.”
For Jimmy Kegin, the Eudora Farmers Market was important because it created a welcoming space for our community to connect while improving access to fresh, locally grown foods and strengthened the sense of ownership and pride in Eudora. “I felt a personal connection and satisfaction with the market as I witnessed the community attend, week in and week out, becoming loyal to vendors and the experience. I always enjoyed seeing how quickly vendors and customers became friends. By mid-season, it felt less like a market and more like a weekly neighborhood reunion. Additionally, I was thrilled and proud to feature local musicians each week to accompany the market.”
The Eudora Farmers' Market is committed to maintaining a 'producer-only' market; everything you find is grown and prepared by our dedicated vendors. Building on the successful first full 2025 season, the dates for the 2026 season are:
