A certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) will:
Inspect the child restraint and confirm that the child restraint is correct for the size, weight, and age of the child
Provide hands-on instruction and education on best practices to install and use child restraint seats in the vehicle according to car seat manufacturer and vehicle instructions
Offer guidance on how to correctly place a child in the restraint
Answer questions parents or caregivers may have
At a car seat check, parents or caregivers can:
Provide the age and weight for each child
Bring the child(ren) to the inspection station or car seat check event
Provide the vehicle owner's manual and car seat manufacturer instructions
Allow at least 20 to 30 minutes for each seat to be checked

What Techs Do
CPSTs use their training and expertise to help parents and caregivers learn how to safely install their child’s car seat and make sure the car seat is the right fit for their child’s size and development.
